Eating Disorder Helpline Takes Down Chatbot After Its Advice Goes Horribly Wrong

By Roli / May 31, 2023 /

AI chatbots aren’t much good at offering emotional support being—you know—not a human, and—it can’t be stated enough—not actually intelligent. That didn’t stop The National Eating Disorder Association from trying to foist a chatbot onto folks requesting aid in times of crisis. Things went about as well as you can expect, as an activist claims that instead of helping through emotional distress, the chatbot instead tried to needle her to lose weight and measure herself constantly.

LEVY: The TDSB’s culture of fear and silence

By Iron Will / May 30, 2023 /

Another teacher has come out of the woodwork to pen concerns about the rampant violence at their school–this one, not surprisingly, teaching in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

The elementary school teacher says in her open letter, obtained by school reformer and activist Michael Teper, that their day-to-day reality at the TDSB is one of “fear, reprisal and fear of reprisal.”

She says their professionalism is regularly under attack.

She’s experienced and witnessed “reprisals” to staff who report violent incidents and try to obtain support for the “most vulnerable” (she does not define what she means by the most vulnerable.)

Heightened food insecurity predicts a range of disordered eating behaviors

By Iron Will / May 30, 2023 /

Those who live in food-insecure households, meaning they had limited access to adequate and nutritious food, are at greater risk for the development of disordered eating behaviors, according to new research published in the journal Eating Behaviors.

Food insecurity is a significant issue that affects a large portion of the U.S. population. More than one in ten households in the United States have experienced food insecurity. Households experiencing food insecurity often face fluctuations in food availability throughout the month, leading to a cycle of food restriction and overconsumption known as the “feast-or-famine” cycle.

The authors behind the new research sought to better understand the consequences of this cycle on individuals’ eating behaviors and overall health.

AI ‘extinction’ should be same priority as nuclear war – experts

By Iron Will / May 30, 2023 /

The Center for AI Safety has released a statement signed by 350 industry leaders, including the CEOs of OpenAI and Google DeepMind

Preventing runaway artificial intelligence from causing the extinction of humanity should be a top-level global priority, the nonprofit Center for AI Safety said in a statement on Tuesday signed by 350 prominent individuals in AI and related fields.

“Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war,” the statement reads.

Signers included Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who recently told Congress he was worried the technology could go “quite wrong” and urged them to impose regulations on the industry. The three industry leaders met with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month to discuss potential regulations. Numerous executives from their companies also added their names to Tuesday’s statement.

Pot Dealers Behind In Taxes

By Iron Will / May 29, 2023 /

ollapse of the legal pot trade has seen two thirds of marijuana dealers fall behind in tax payments, says a federal report. Dealers owe the Canada Revenue Agency millions.

“The total amount of unpaid cannabis excise duties has continuously been rising since legalization,” said a report by the Competition Bureau. “Sixty-six percent of licensees required to remit excise duties had an outstanding debt with the Canada Revenue Agency.”

Unpaid taxes last year totaled $52.4 million. The value of delinquent payments was projected to nearly double to $97.5 million this year, said the report Planting The Seeds For Competition.

Parliament on legalizing marijuana in 2018 taxed it at $1 per gram plus GST. “With the average price per gram for dried cannabis falling since legalization, excise duties now take up a more significant portion of cannabis producers’ revenues,” up to 30 percent or more, wrote the Competition Bureau

FDA Approves Physical Control of the Mind by Musk’s Neuralink

By Roli / May 29, 2023 /

The FDA’s approval of Elon Musk’s Neuralink for human experimentation is momentous — a potentially catastrophic step toward transhumanism — the attempted physical control of the mind.1 I emphasize “attempted” because all such previous attempts have inflicted severe injury on the brains of the subjects without achieving any significant control over the individual’s behavior. Neuralink uses a robot to “sew” very thin electrodes into the brain for interfacing with computers.

The FDA doesn’t typically confirm approvals for human clinical trials but offered a statement Friday. “The FDA acknowledges and understands that Neuralink has announced that its investigational device exemption … for its implant/R1 robot was approved by the FDA and that it may now begin conducting human clinical trials for its device,” an agency spokesperson said in a statement Friday.

Will the FDA protect the public from Musk unleashing a plague of transhumanistic experimentation on humanity? Not a chance. It will promote it. Transhumanistic experimentation is a darling of the Deep State in general and especially the FDA Center for Devices.

Jagmeet Singh, leader of the NDP, criticized the Saskatchewan First Act (SFA) and Premier Scott Moe’s Sask Party government during his visit to North Battleford on Wednesday.

Jagmeet Singh
“Here in Saskatchewan, I know that you’re up against a tough government that’s not recognizing and respecting indigenous rights,” said Singh at the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) All-Chiefs Assembly.

“The Saskatchewan First Act is legislation that ignores the rights of indigenous people. And I want you to know I think that’s wrong.”

Moe responded to Singh’s accusations against the Sask Party and the SFA in a tweet, including a dig that the Trudeau government owns Singh.

“The Saskatchewan First Act asserts our province’s constitutional autonomy over our own natural resources,” tweeted Moe.

“Saskatchewan is not a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Trudeau government. Unlike Jagmeet Singh.”

Calgary police searching for suspect in church fire By Jonathan Bradley 5 hrs ago 1

By Iron Will / May 26, 2023 /

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) are asking for the public’s assistance to identify a man believed to be responsible for setting a fire and assaulting two men at St. Mary’s Cathedral last week.

CPS were called to the scene May 19 around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a fire set at St. Mary’s Cathedral, according to a Thursday press release. After two staff members heard a commotion outside, the release said they opened the door to the back of the church when a man charged at them.

The two men were able to close the door and get to safety while the suspect continued to attempt to gain entry into the church. They called 911, and the fire was extinguished upon the Calgary Fire Department’s (CFD) arrival.

The suspect is described as about 35 to 45 years old, with a bald or shaved head, about six ft. tall, and 180lbs.

CPS’ Hate Crime Prevention Team is investigating to determine if hate motivation is a factor.
