How IRT’s Approach to GMO 2.0 Differs from GMO 1.0

By Roli / August 29, 2023 /

GMO 1.0 & GMO 2.0
GMO 1.0 Strategy

IRT’s GMO 1.0 approach was The Tipping Point Strategy. We focused on consumer buying behavior. If a sufficient number of shoppers demanded non-GMO products, the economic advantages for brands to switch to non-GMO suppliers would change the marketplace and suppress the introduction of new GMOs.

GMO 2.0 Strategy

Consumer decisions in the supermarket alone will not stop the release of GM grass, insects, trees, algae, bacteria, etc., which are facilitated by gene editing and other GMO 2.0 technologies. Protecting biological evolution from the onslaught of a massive number of new GMOs released into the environment requires responsible regulation.

Potentially toxic chemicals found in paper straws

By Valerie / August 29, 2023 /

A study shows paper straws may have toxic chemicals and be risky for people, animals and the environment.

Researchers found most paper and bamboo straws tested contained poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These chemicals can last a long time and may harm people’s health over years of use.

These ‘eco-friendly’ straws are supposed to be better for the environment compared to plastic straws, which are now banned.

10 years after HHS asked CDC to study safety of childhood vaccine schedule, CDC hasn’t produced it

By Shawna / August 29, 2023 /

In 2013, the National Vaccine Program Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) commissioned an update of earlier findings on the lack of evidence to support claims that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) infant/child vaccination schedule was safe.
According to the IOM committee, “studies designed to examine the long-term effects of the cumulative number of vaccines or other aspects of the immunization schedule have not been conducted.”
The lack of information on the overall safety of the vaccination schedule was so compelling that the committee then recommended HHS incorporate the study of the safety of the overall childhood immunization schedule into its processes for setting priorities for research, “recognizing stakeholder concerns, and establishing the priorities on the basis of epidemiological evidence, biological plausibility, and feasibility.”
