Breaking the Silence: Israeli Army Veterans Tour U.S. & Canada to Speak Out Against Occupation

By Roli / April 10, 2024 /

Democracy Now! speaks with two former Israeli soldiers who are members of Breaking the Silence, an anti-occupation group of Israeli army veterans. The group’s education director, Tal Sagi, describes growing up in a settlement and joining the military without understanding what occupation was. “We’ve been told that this is security and we have to control millions of lives and we don’t have other options,” says Sagi, who says Israeli society is not open to ending the occupation. “We’re trying to say that there are other options.” We also speak with Breaking the Silence deputy director Nadav Weiman about why the group is touring U.S. colleges and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. “We stood in checkpoints. We raided homes. We attacked Gaza from the air. We fought from the ground,” says Weiman. “So, when you bring reality, you bring real conversation about the occupation, and you bring real conversation about Gaza.”

Intentional Selection in Health Care Education

By Shawna / April 5, 2024 /

Here’s the full story from on of my readers:
I was, long ago, (NOT close) friends with Dr Robert Mendelsohn, author of *Confessions Of A Medical Heretic* and *Male Practice.* He told me some stories. … One was that he was head of the Education arm of the American Medical Association (AMA) for (I think it was) four years. He said “they” intentionally filtered out any independent thinkers to even get into medical school. Yes, a few slipped through the cracks, but the AMA head Honchos wanted NO doctors who would Rock The Boat. They wanted *Go Along To Get Along* Docs in their ranks. … I was friends & associates with some of the *Boat Rocker* Medical Doctors and Osteopaths. They caught a LOT of grief, and even bankruptcy for a few, for their independence of thought and practice. … After he published his books, Dr. Mendelsohn told me the AMA had an “informal committee” on *What to do about Bob Mendelsohn.* Apparently, he was too well respected and too well known to just trash him. So he was not as traumatized as some of the physicians I knew in those days. Some of them got it pretty bad for going aging the grain. This kept everyone else, the more timid, in line, apparently.

By Shawna / April 4, 2024 /

First-year medical students at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) must submit themselves to a “Structural Racism and Health Equity” course featuring prayers to “mama earth,” benedictions to racial minorities, condemnation of free market economics, and more, according to an exposé by the Washington Free Beacon.

The report, based on published audio of the class, text messages, and conversations with students, details how the mandatory course is led by Lisa “Tiny” Gray-Garcia, a self-described “formerly unhoused, incarcerated, revolutionary journalist, lecturer, poet, visionary, teacher and single mama” who co-founded various homelessness and poverty-related projects, condemns American police officers as murderers, and praised as “justice” the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.
