The organization reportedly encouraged anti-Israel activists to recreate the violent protests witnessed during the “summer of 2020,” just hours before rioters stormed and occupied a building at Columbia’s campus.

Hundreds of people were arrested at pro-Palestinian protests on US campuses as police Wednesday extended a crackdown that included clearing out demonstrators occupying a building at Columbia University in New York.

On the other side of the country, counter-protesters attacked a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of California, Los Angeles as violent clashes erupted in the dark before police intervened.

At Columbia, the center of nationwide protests, police were on standby Wednesday after their overnight operation dismantled a weeks-long encampment and forcibly removed people occupying an academic building.

German state television broadcaster ZDF has corrected a false report claiming that a radical Islamist demonstration in Hamburg was organized by those “close to a right-wing extremist group observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.”

The false claim was made on the morning news program heuteeXpress on April 29 by presenter Sara Bilda.

“In fact, the correct sentence would have been “that ‘Muslim Interaktiv’ is being monitored by the Hamburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a confirmed extremist movement in the Islamist milieu,” the broadcaster clarified.

UnitedHealth CEO estimates one-third of Americans could be impacted by Change Healthcare cyberattack

UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty on Wednesday told lawmakers that data from an estimated one-third of Americans could have been compromised in the cyberattack on its subsidiary Change Healthcare, and that the company paid a $22 million ransom to hackers.

Witty testified in front of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, which falls under the House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy and Commerce. He said the investigation into the breach is still ongoing, so the exact number of people affected remains unknown. The one-third figure is a rough estimate.

Alberta Premier Danielle wasn’t gloating over the decision by the government of British Columbia to backtrack on key parts of its drug legalization policy on Friday.

McGill University in Montreal on Tuesday asked for police assistance in clearing out an anti-Israel encampment of dozens of tents set up on its downtown campus.

University officials said the request was made after protestors refused to leave, and noted the majority of protestors are not students at McGill or members of the school community.

Anti-Israel protests have escalated at Concordia University, Montreal, as well, with protestors at both schools refusing to stop until the schools have divested from all companies they claims are “profiting from genocide,” per the Globe & Mail.

Won’t Discuss B.C. Disorder

Addictions Minister Ya’ara Saks yesterday said cabinet was still considering an appeal from British Columbia to curb disorder from public use of cocaine and other narcotics. A current experiment with drug decriminalization in B.C. was to run until January 31, 2026.

“We are reviewing the request to the exemption they put forward to us,” Minister Saks yesterday told reporters. She would not say when cabinet will comply with B.C.’s latest request.

“How quickly can you respond?” asked a reporter. “I only received the letter on Friday,” replied Minister Saks. “It is under review with officials at this time.”
