By Iron Will / May 23, 2023 /

On Thursday during the G7 leaders summit in Japan, Prime Minister Trudeau called out Meloni as she sat next to him with a stunned look on her face.

“Canada is concerned about some of the positioning that Italy is taking in terms of LGBT rights, but I look forward to talking with you,” Trudeau said in front of reporters and Meloni.

Meloni and Trudeau later spoke behind closed doors. Since then, she has responded to Trudeau’s criticism by stating that since she’s become PM, her government hasn’t passed any legislation related to LGBT rights.

Meloni said Trudeau’s remark “doesn’t correspond to reality.”

Black Lives Matter Donations Plunge 88 Percent Amid Scandals

By Iron Will / May 22, 2023 /

Donations to the national organization for the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement have seen a sharp decline amid several self-enrichment scandals and infighting.

Records viewed by The Epoch Times show that the fundraising arm of the organization, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, raised just $9.3 million in the fiscal year ended in June 2022 compared to the $80 million or so the group raised in 2020, the year that George Floyd protests and riots rocked cities across America.

The documents were first obtained and reported on by The Washington Free Beacon.

The stunning 88 percent drop in donations comes amid controversy around the group’s financial accounting, allegations that organizers used donations to enrich themselves, and a lawsuit from BLM Grassroots that accused the head of BLM Global Network Foundation of stealing over $10 million.

Uber diversity chief placed on leave for ‘tone deaf’ talk on white women Internal emails reveal complaints over Bo Young Lee’s ‘Don’t Call Me Karen’ event

By Iron Will / May 22, 2023 /

Uber’s head of diversity has been placed on leave after a black employee complained about a “tone-deaf” internal session on white women titled “Don’t Call Me Karen”.

Bo Young Lee was asked to step away by chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi last week after a backlash to the event, which was meant to focus on “the spectrum of the American white woman’s experience”.

The event, which referenced the derogatory term for middle aged white women “Karen”, featured white Uber employees discussing their own experiences of race and gender.

Ms Lee, who was an adviser to Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign, encouraged Uber staff to “have an open and honest conversation about race”.

Eric Kaufmann: The Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill is a triumphant pushback against illiberalism

By Iron Will / May 22, 2023 /

The Higher Education Freedom of Speech Bill completed its passage through Parliament this month. It’s been a long three-year road to victory.

The Bill places a duty on universities to not just protect, but promote academic freedom. More importantly, it establishes an academic freedom directorate within the Office for Students, the sector regulator, to monitor university policies. The Academic Freedom Director is likely going to be an individual with a strong belief in the mission.

The directorate will host an ombudsman to which students can swiftly appeal if universities try to punish them for holding controversial views, as occurred with gender-critical feminists like Jo Phoenix at the University of Essex or Kathleen Stock at the University of Sussex. In addition, the legislation empowers students and staff to sue universities that violate their academic freedom, a powerful incentive for university managers to reject the illiberalism of woke activists.
