Climate Alarmism

BlackRock’s Climate-Crusade Doubletalk CEO Larry Fink says companies should have a ‘purpose,’ but pushes them to advance what he favors.

By Iron Will / May 23, 2023 /

‘Stakeholder capitalism is not about politics. . . . It is capitalism.” Or so BlackRock CEO Larry Fink claimed in his annual letter to America’s CEOs last month, in which he called on corporate chiefs to stay true to their own companies’ “purpose.”

“Putting your company’s purpose at the foundation of your relationships with your stakeholders is critical to your long-term success. . . . Your company’s purpose is its north star in this tumultuous environment. . . . It is more important than ever that your company and its management be guided by its purpose.” Mr. Fink’s four-page letter invokes the word “purpose” eight times.

But whose purpose, exactly? In the same letter, Mr. Fink also calls on CEOs to set “short-, medium-, and long-term targets for greenhouse gas reductions.” His demands are explicit: “We ask you to issue reports consistent with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures.” BlackRock regularly makes demands such as these of its portfolio companies, requiring them to meet the standards of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.

DiCaprio-affiliated enviro group says fossil fuel companies owe at least $209-billion a year in climate reparations

By Iron Will / May 22, 2023 /

A Los Angeles based ‘philanthro-activist’ group is claiming the world’s largest fossil fuel companies owe at least $209 billion a year in “reparations” for climate damages.

In a new paper entitled Time to Pay the Piper, One Earth argues climate change is a moral issue that will disproportionately impact developing nations in Africa, Asia and Latin America to the tune of $99 trillion from 2025-50, $70 trillion of which it attributes to fossil fuels.

“Human-caused climate change has long been acknowledged as essentially an ethical issue that threatens humanity and ravages the planet,” it said.

Feds clean electricity standard an “absolute infringement” on Saskatchewan’s rights

By Iron Will / May 21, 2023 /

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe made it clear in a recent interview that his government would put its foot down on federal plans to require the province to shut down all coal and gas power plants by 2030 and 2035 respectively.

While speaking alongside Justice Minister Brownyn Eyre, Moe told the outlet Pipeline Online that he firmly believes that power regulation is “within the provincial jurisdiction” and the federal government was overreaching.

“I’m not going to answer hypotheticals with respect to this. But it’s our interpretation that these decisions on how you produce power, most certainly are in the realm of provincial jurisdiction,” said Moe.

Says Analysts’ Math Is Wrong

By Iron Will / May 19, 2023 /

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault yesterday dismissed Budget Office arithmetic showing climate change regulations will cost Canadians thousands a year. Guilbeault said the numbers were wrong but provided none of his own.

“Their analysis takes the same unbalanced modeling approach as they did with the analysis on the price on pollution,” Guilbeault told reporters. “The Budget Office is consistently failing to take into account the steep and rising costs of climate change.”

Budget Officer Yves Giroux in a report said new regulations to take effect July 1, the Clean Fuel Standard, will cost Canadians nationwide. “Our analysis focuses on the cost to households in 2030, the year in which the ultimate reductions in carbon intensity are achieved,” said the report A Distributional Analysis Of The Clean Fuel Regulations.

VIEWPOINTS Cory Morgan: Canada Must Establish a Robust East/West Energy Corridor to Avert the Catastrophe of a Line 5 Shutdown

By Iron Will / May 19, 2023 /

The battle over the operation of the multi-national Enbridge Line 5 pipeline appears to have no end. American anti-energy activists—invigorated by their victory in shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada—have set their sights on Line 5 and won’t quit until the line is shut down one way or another. Cross-border pipelines could soon be a thing of the past, and Canada’s energy security is vulnerable due to this.

Line 5 carries Canadian petroleum products. It begins in Superior, Wisconsin, crosses Michigan, and terminates in Sarnia, Ontario, where the products are refined. It has been safely operating for over 65 years and it services energy needs in the Northeastern United States and Canada with over half a million barrels a day of petrochemicals. If the line were to be suddenly shut down, it would wreak economic havoc. Ideologically driven opponents to the line don’t care about the consequences, though, and they may have their way soon.

Warn Coal Burning’s A Crime

By Iron Will / May 18, 2023 /

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault yesterday threatened criminal sanctions against coal-burning provinces that fail to comply with climate change regulations. His remarks came a day after Saskatchewan’s Premier said the province will run its coal and gas-fired power plants so long as they’re useful.

“What kind of penalties would Saskatchewan face if they don’t phase out coal?” asked a reporter. “We have regulated the ban on coal through the Canadian Environmental Protection Act which is a criminal tool that the federal government has,” replied Guilbeault. “Not complying with this regulation would be a violation of Canada’s Criminal Code.”
