Elections Canada yesterday detailed plans for a media marketing campaign targeting young voters. Electors under 25 number 2.7 million but fewer than half, 1.2 million, cast ballots in the 2021 campaign.

“Most of them intend to vote in the upcoming federal election,” said a pollsters’ report. “A vast majority of participants saw voting as important including those who did not vote or were ambivalent about voting,” added researchers.

Voter turnout among electors of all ages averaged 63 percent in the last campaign. Turnout for those under 25 was 47 percent, prompting Elections Canada to organize a “new digital campaign specifically targeting youth,” it said.
