Federal agents are unable to track and deport all foreign fugitives, the Canada Border Services Agency said yesterday. The admission followed new data indicating 29,248 foreigners banned from Canada remain here.

“I think targets of 100 percent are rarely achievable,” Jonathan Moore, vice-president of the Border Services Agency, testified at the Senate national finance committee. “What we have tried to do is increase our targets year over year,” he said.

The Agency has targeted an 80 percent success rate in deporting foreign fugitives. Senator Tony Loffreda (Que.) noted the Agency spent $445 million border enforcement last year.
