Conservative MPs yesterday introduced 904 amendments to the budget as a filibuster entered its second month. Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre said MPs would use all means possible to block the budget bill until cabinet caps the carbon tax and commits to eliminating the deficit.

“We are going to stop the budget unless they meet two conditions,” said Poilievre. Conservative MPs earlier tied up the bill for 29 days at the Commons finance committee.

“If the government does not meet these demands we will use all procedural tools at our disposal to block the budget from passing including 900 amendments, lengthy speeches and other procedural tools that are in our toolkit,” said Poilievre. “Our purpose is to restore common sense to the country’s finances.”

MPs yesterday raised numerous points of order to block Third Reading debate of Bill C-47 the Budget Implementation Act. “I want to seek clarification on the use of the word ‘phony’ in the House of Commons,” said MP Andrew Scheer (Regina-Qu’Appelle), Opposition House Leader. “It is not on the list of unparliamentary words,” he said.
