RCMP will spend $1 million on bulletproof doors at 24 Sussex Drive and other official residences. Police said the unusual precaution is part of “immediate security upgrades”.

“RCMP have identified the requirement to introduce a variety of high security door assembly solutions within a series of immediate security upgrades for deployment within the residences of public officials,” police yesterday wrote in a notice Protecting Canada’s Public Officials. “Traditional armour materials are prohibitive due to excessive weight, and challenging to introduce within a residential environment.”
