Home Office signs £7M deal with IBM to build controversial biometric database

By Iron Will / June 24, 2023 /

UK’s Home Office has signed a £7 million (US $9.2 million) contract with IBM to work with law enforcement in developing a biometric ‘mega-database’ to “prevent crime and better safeguard the public,” despite a watchdog’s privacy concerns, NS Tech reports.

In June, IBM said it would no longer sell its biometric facial recognition and analysis software to law enforcement. IBM will supply the National Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS) with an interface and platform to access law enforcement databases and search for matches with the Police National Database’s biometric algorithm. NS Tech suggests it could eventually be combined with Automatic Facial Recognition (AFR) technologies.

Nerd War!: Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg Agree to ‘Cage Fight’

By Iron Will / June 22, 2023 /

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two of the world’s leading tech billionaires, recently engaged in a humorous social media exchange about a potential cage fight. Zuckerberg has been training in mixed martial arts for some time now, it is unclear if Musk has any combat experience whatsoever. When Musk proposed a match, Zuck responded, “Send me location.”

BBC News reports that Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook (now known as Meta), have seemingly agreed to compete in a cage fight after engaging in a surprising Twitter conversation. The back and forth, which has since gone viral, started when Musk said he was “up for a cage fight” with Zuckerberg in a tweet. Zuckerberg replied by sharing a screenshot of Musk’s tweet along with the request, “Send me location.” While Musk was likely living up to the billing given to him by Donald Trump as a “bullshit artist,” signs point to Zuckerberg being more serious.

By Iron Will / June 22, 2023 /

The battle for social media supremacy has taken an interesting turn, with LinkedIn and Facebook joining forces to take on Twitter. This comes after the news of LinkedIn deleting the account of a talented 14-year-old teen hired by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. While this move might be viewed as an isolated incident, LinkedIn claims the account was deleted because the user is below the minimum age to apply for any job.
