The Canadian government’s much anticipated defence policy update, spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, finally acknowledges the growing threats in the Far North that many have long known and feared.

“The most urgent and important task we face is asserting Canada’s sovereignty in the Arctic and northern regions, where the changing physical and geopolitical landscapes have created new threats and vulnerabilities to Canada and Canadians,” notes the new policy, Our North, Strong and Free, released April 8.

Bombardier’s import of Russian titanium enables Russia’s destruction of Ukraine: Marcus Kolga in the Toronto Star

Companies that prioritize profits over human lives must be held accountable, not given a free pass on sanctions violations; they should be subjected to public scrutiny and our most severe condemnation.
April 30, 2024 Sanctions function like a prescribed course of medicine: their effectiveness hinges on sustained application and timely adjustments to ensure they precisely target and progressively weaken the ailment.

This ensures that the sanctions we impose do not merely symbolize disapproval but affect the desired outcome — the curtailing of Russia’s capacity to wage war in Ukraine and elsewhere.

By Valerie / May 1, 2024 /

German state television broadcaster ZDF has corrected a false report claiming that a radical Islamist demonstration in Hamburg was organized by those “close to a right-wing extremist group observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.”

The false claim was made on the morning news program heuteeXpress on April 29 by presenter Sara Bilda.

“In fact, the correct sentence would have been “that ‘Muslim Interaktiv’ is being monitored by the Hamburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a confirmed extremist movement in the Islamist milieu,” the broadcaster clarified.

By Valerie / May 1, 2024 /

Dissatisfaction is growing in Slovenia because the Ljubljana government thinks the solution to the problems caused by foreigners is to legalize illegal migration, former Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša told Hungarian news outlet Magyar Hírlap at the CPAC Hungary 2024 conference.

“The latest figures show that the proportion of migrants has increased several times compared to the previous period. Robert Golob, Slovenia’s left-wing prime minister, has invited migrants, saying the solution to illegal migration is to make it legal. Migration centers are full, and this is the result of this policy. Of course, the population does not like it,” Janša said.

He added that migration has not yet become a critical social issue only because the government is hiding its true magnitude:

French industrial companies involved in the manufacture of Aster anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic missiles will have to prioritize the production of these weapons’ components over other orders, announced the French Armed Forces Ministry.

“For the first time, we have mobilized administrative police powers, which allows the prioritization of a certain number of subcontractors, where civilian orders must now take second place to military orders in order to give priority to the Aster range,” Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu said in Calvi, during a meeting with his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto.

With tent cities springing up across American campuses, filled with antisemitic activists who are openly supporting U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organizations, you could be forgiven for suspecting that this activism was not wholly organic. And you would be right.

Fingerprints of Further Funding
Take the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” at Columbia University, where “students sleep in tents apparently ordered from Amazon and enjoy delivery pizza, coffee from Dunkin’, free sandwiches worth $12.50 from Pret a Manger, organic tortilla chips, and $10 rotisserie chickens,” according to the New York Post. That is not the sort of event a campus student association organizes on its semesterly stipend—certainly not the sort of event a student association could sustain for now more than a week.

By Iron Will / May 1, 2024 /

Chaos has broken out near a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of California Los Angeles.

The pro-Israel counterprotesters had “violently” tried to enter the encampment, according to the Daily Bruin student newspaper. Videos on social media showed fireworks being set off and at least one going into the encampment.

“Pro-Israel counterprotesters violently clashed with the pro-Palestine encampment,” the newspaper wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “There are reports of tear gas being used and fireworks being set off in Dickson Plaza.”
