BCE Inc. announced Wednesday it was cutting roughly 1,300 positions, or three per cent of its workforce, in response to what it says is unfavourable public policy and regulatory conditions that the company can no longer outwait.
The planned cuts, announced in an internal memo distributed to staff Wednesday morning, come weeks after Bell Canada shared how much its top executives earned in 2022.
So, just how much did they collect last year?
Bell CEO’s base salary increased between 2021 and 2022
Mirko Bibic, president and CEO of Bell Canada since January 2020, received $13.59 million in total compensation last year. That’s up nearly 20 per cent, or $2.45 million, from the previous year. Much of that increase is attributed to excess pension benefits, which Bibic was eligible to receive after turning 55 that year.
