The Federal Liberals announced today, that they will be pausing carbon taxes for heating oil for three years in a bid to accelerate the switch to using heat pumps.

As many of you are keenly aware, this was the justification they used for introducing the carbon tax in the first place, that it would “encourage” people to make decisions that lead to lower CO2 emissions because of the cost imposed by the government.

This move, is an admission said policy isn’t doing what they said it would do, and in reality its making life drastically less affordable for Canadians.

Furthermore, there is no pause for carbon taxes on natural gas heating. Meaning there will be little relief for homeowners in Western Canada, where natural gas is predominately used. This is targeted tax relief for households in Eastern Canada.
