A Scottish Green plan to cut the speed limit on part of the M8 to 30mph that was branded ‘madness’ by the Scottish Conservatives has been passed by Glasgow City Council. We previously reported that Councillor Christy Mearns had lodged a motion asking for action on the city centre stretch of the road.

And despite warnings from the Scottish Conservative group that it would damage the city economy, councillors have opted to press ahead to see if they can take the plan forward. At a meeting of the city council, an amended motion that stated it was “time to reconsider whether a city centre motorway – very much a transport solution of the 1960s – is the right solution for the 2030s and beyond”.
