Justin Trudeau’s decision to step down as prime minister on Monday sparked mixed reviews of his political legacy among Quebec politicians. Staunch nationalist François Legault and fervent federalist Trudeau had a notoriously strained relationship, with Quebec’s premier publicly calling for Trudeau’s minority government to be toppled. But on Monday Legault stuck to the positive after Trudeau announced he will leave his post once a new Liberal leader is elected before spring.
