Repeated reference to ArriveCan as “Arrive-scam” promotes public cynicism, Liberal MP Iqra Khalid (Mississauga-Erin Mills, Ont.) yesterday told the Commons public accounts committee. “It is impacting public trust,” she said.

“When Conservative colleagues call it Arrive-scam instead of the ArriveCan app it is impacting public trust,” said MP Khalid, parliamentary secretary for revenue. “That is the crux of what I am trying to get at.”

The $59.5 million ArriveCan program is the target of ongoing audits and police investigations over disclosures of irregularities and sweetheart contracting. Two federal managers to date have been suspended without pay.
