Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne has dismissed all complaints over federal vaccine and quarantine mandates. Pandemic measures enforced by cabinet were necessary and justifiable under the Privacy Act, he said.

“The urgency of limiting the spread of the virus was understandably a significant challenge for government and public health authorities,” wrote Dufresne. “The Covid-19 crisis was a rapidly evolving situation that required swift and effective responses to address extraordinary public health needs.”

The Commissioner issued seven separate reports in response to complaints against Covid measures. No complaints were upheld. “Our investigation considered whether all aspects of the policy were necessary and proportional,” wrote Dufresne.
