Parliament will not be recalled to manage a multi-billion dollar U.S. trade war, says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Commons trade committee members including Liberal MPs had rated parliamentary hearings a priority in a 2019 tariff dispute.

“This is a moment where we need to set aside our differences and focus on delivering for Canadians, standing up for Canadians,” Trudeau told reporters Saturday. The Prime Minister said U.S. President Donald Trump had not returned his telephone calls in two weeks.

“We’re going through a difficult time right now,” said Trudeau. “Emotions may run high here and there.”

“Will you recall Parliament?” asked a reporter. “We have the tools,” replied Trudeau.
