Immigration Minister Marc Miller yesterday promised “a number of measures” to enforce the Immigration And Refugee Protection Act. The pledge followed a U.S. warning of a winter tariff war without a Canadian crackdown on illegal immigration.
“There is work to be done here to make sure people aren’t going in irregularly into the United States,” Miller told reporters. Cabinet had “a job to not make our problems the Americans’ problems,” he said.
“There are a number of measures we are considering in any event regardless of what the incoming administration would have been,” said Miller. “Clearly this will be part of a discussion we will have with the Americans.”
