It Wasn’t Us, Say Ukrainians
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress played no role in a Commons tribute to a Nazi collaborator, the group yesterday told the House affairs committee. Cabinet had blamed the Congress for the incident involving ex-Waffen SS member Yaroslav Hunka.

“We never interacted with the Speaker’s office,” testified Ihor Michalchyshyn, CEO of the Congress. “We received a letter from him apologizing a week later.”

Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon blamed the Congress for sponsoring the VIP treatment. “The name of the individual we are discussing in these proceedings was submitted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress,” MacKinnon testified February 13.
