The Department of Public Works yesterday for the first time acknowledged it “took a risk” in subsidizing a vaccine factory in Minister Jean-Yves Duclos’ riding. Taxpayers lost $150 million.

“We took a risk of putting contracts with various suppliers for enough vaccines for all Canadians,” said Joelle Paquette, director general with the public works department. Testifying at the Commons health committee, Paquette made the comment regarding subsidies to build a Medicago Incorporated plant in Minister Duclos’ Québec City constituency.
