Parliament must deploy the Army and Customs agents to intercept U.S. gun runners at the border, Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre said yesterday. “Let’s stop the gangsters and gun smugglers,” he told reporters. “I want to protect Canadians from criminals.”
“We must recall Parliament now and put Liberal Party power struggles aside so we can adopt this plan to save our people and secure our borders,” said Poilievre. “The plan: Immediately deploy military troops, helicopters and surveillance to the border to spot and intercept risks.”
The Canada Border Services Agency should hire 2,000 new agents “to intercept illegal crossers, drugs and guns,” said Poilievre. He proposed that Parliament grant the Agency authority to patrol the border between land crossings to intercept gun smugglers.
