Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault’s office in an Access To Information letter says it cannot find thank you notes from carbon tax supporters named Bob and Jill. Guilbeault in Question Period cited correspondence from the couple as evidence of the popularity of the tax.

The Minister’s office, asked for “correspondence from Bob referred to by the Minister,” said it could find none. “After a thorough search no records were found concerning this request,” it said. A search for Jill’s letter was also unsuccessful.

Minister Guilbeault mentioned the correspondence October 19 under Commons questioning by Conservative MP Dan Mazier (Dauphin-Swan River, Man.). MP Mazier at the time expressed skepticism over the claim taxpayers were thanking cabinet for carbon charges. “I don’t recall ever receiving a piece of carbon tax fan mail from a Canadian,” Mazier said following the Question Period exchange:
