Canadians should be ashamed over mistreatment of Indigenous people, says Senator David Arnot (Sask.). The former Saskatchewan human rights commissioner said “ritualized boilerplate statements” of contrition are insufficient.

“I spent 20 years or so telling the people of Saskatchewan and others across Canada that Canadians should be shocked, appalled and ashamed of what their government did to First Nations people, Indigenous people, but they fundamentally really don’t know what happened,” Arnot told the Senate rules committee.
