A former board member of the Trudeau Foundation revealed that the organization has investments in two Chinese companies that have been accused of violating privacy rights and collaborating with the Chinese communist regime.
Madeleine Redfern testified to the House of Commons ethics committee that 0.07% of the organization’s investment portfolio is with Tencent and Baidu, two of China’s largest tech firms. Tencent owns WeChat, an app that surveils and censors its users, and Baidu has leaked sensitive user data.
