Former classmates and admirers of Gordon Lightfoot are looking to pay him tribute, one year after his death, by petitioning to have Highway 400 renamed in his honour.

Lightfoot, a musician beloved by many Canadians throughout the height of his singer-songwriter career in the 1960s and beyond, died last May of natural causes at the age of 84.

The idea to try to get the highway, which runs north from Toronto to Parry Sound, renamed first came to be when Douglas Walkinshaw and his former high school classmates got together to reminisce last year after Lightfoot’s death.
