Observations from a nurse

I did some homework and was shocked to discover 1 in 4 babies or 25% were admitted to the NICU at our local Hospital Industrial Complex during the first 6 months of 2023.

I compared these findings with a study published by The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine in Sept 2020 entitled:

Admission of full-term infants to the neonatal intensive care unit: a 9.5-year review in a tertiary teaching hospital

Results: The study included 1573 anonymous neonates. During the study period, the rate of admission of full-term infants to the NICU was 6.8%.
