4 Premiers to Testify Against Carbon Tax Hike at Parliamentary Committee

By Shawna / March 27, 2024 /

Four conservative premiers will appear before a House of Commons committee this week to ask Ottawa to reconsider its “punishing” April 1 increase of the federal carbon tax.
The premiers of Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan shared on social media this week letters they had written to the House Finance Committee requesting a chance to testify about the impending carbon price hike.
The premiers’ letters described the upcoming 23 percent increase that will see carbon pricing rise from $65 to $80 per tonne as “punitive” and “disastrous” for Canadians.
Liberal House Finance Committee Chair Peter Fonseca declined to recall the panel of MPs to accommodate the provincial leaders’ request, Tory MP Kelly McCauley said in a March 26 social media post.
But the premiers will have the chance to express their opinions before the committee Mr. McCauley chairs. The Conservative chair of the Government Operations and Estimates committee has invited the premiers to testify via video conference.
“Premiers should be welcomed before parliamentary committees and given the opportunity to testify, especially on matters of national importance, like the April 1 carbon tax hike,” Mr. McCauley said in a letter posted on X.

EU admin needs to be fit for green, AI future, says top official

By Iron Will / March 26, 2024 /

BRUSSELS, March 26 (Reuters) – European Union countries’ budget cuts have eaten into layers of government that need now to be reinforced given their vital role in the transition to a more green and digital economy, a senior EU official said.
Elisa Ferreira, European commissioner for cohesion and reforms, said the cuts in particular during the euro zone crisis from 2009 to the mid-2010s had resulted in reduced staff in public administration and delayed training or introduction of new technologies.
“But we are asking for the public administration to adapt, to do green budgeting, to use artificial intelligence… and often they don’t have the means to deliver,” Ferreira told Reuters in an interview.
The European Union has new laws to speed up the process of granting permits for projects that would boost clean tech production or secure supply of critical materials, but public administrations, which grant permits, could prove a bottleneck.

Majority of Canadians Support Saskatchewan in Not Collecting Carbon Tax on Home Heating

By Iron Will / March 26, 2024 /

More than half of Canadians say Saskatchewan is doing the “right thing” by refusing to collect the carbon tax on home heating, a new survey has found.

Fifty-four percent of those polled by Angus Reid say they support the actions of Premier Scott Moe and his Saskatchewan Party, with the majority of Canadians in every province except Quebec on board.

While only 41 percent of Quebecers support Saskatchewan’s decision to halt carbon tax collection on natural gas and electric home heating, nearly three-quarters of Albertans are behind the move, the survey found. Seventy-one percent of those polled in the neighbouring province said they supported the decision compared to 58 percent of Saskatchewan residents.

Matthews: Autocrats gonna mandate: health insurance, vaccines, EVs and more

By Roli / March 26, 2024 /

The White House and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are denying that recent EPA regulations are meant to mandate that everyone switch from gas-powered to an electric vehicle (EV). Don’t you believe ’em. Progressive elites rely on the power of government to force you to do what they think you should be doing. In other words, autocrats gonna mandate.
